For the first time in program history, the Wellsboro boys soccer team defeated Athens, 1-0 Friday night.

The Hornets got on the board in the 25th minute of the first half when Senior Erik Stemcosky scored off a free kick from Sophomore Tucker Worthington and a knock down from Senior Aaron Dilman. The Hornets were able to hold the Wildcats scoreless from that point on to pick up the league win.

"I was very happy with how the boys battled," said head coach John Shaffer. "It was a professional win in terms of how we got a goal and then did what it took to see the game out."

Junior Jake Mitchell recorded his second shutout in goal for the Hornets as he recorded 3 saves.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 3-1 (3-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 14 as they travel to Troy.
