The Hornets suffered their first defeat of the season to the Warriors, 9-7. Williamson drew first blood with 3 runs in the first inning. Wellsboro countered in the second with 4 runs on a timely hit by Brandon Owlett. But in the bottom of the same frame, Williamson scored 1 with Huyett delivering a two out single, his second of the game.
Williamson added one run in the bottom of the third and Wellsboro came back in the top of the fourth to tie the game again at 5. But the Warriors pulled away in the bottom of the 4th with another key hit - a two out, bases loaded, three run double by Fish. Wellsboro 6th inning rally of 2 runs fell short and Williamson came away with the victory.
"I give the Williamson team a lot of credit," said head coach Philip Prough. "It was a back and forth game and they were more focused than we were tonight. We made several mental mistakes on the base paths that cost us dearly. But mistakes don't cost you unless the other team capitalizes on them - and Williamson did tonight."
Senior Brandon Grinnell takes his first lost of the season for the Hornets. Owlett went 2-2 and Pat Parsons went 2-4 while Ben Shaw drove in 3 RBIs.
With the loss, Wellsboro falls to 3-1 (3-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 18, as they host Troy.
