The Wellsboro Middle School boys basketball team ended their season Saturday at the NTL Middle School tournament. In the first game Wellsboro faced a tough and athletic Wyalusing team. The Hornets were up by one at the half, but couldn't hold it together and lost 46-37. Dawson Prough had 22 and Joe Allen had 9 points in the game.
"Wyalusing's size and athleticism gave us problems," said head coach Dan Marple. "We also didn't do a great job in transition."
Wellsboro rebounded in their second game as they easily moved past Liberty, 46-10. Prough had 21 to lead the team and every player for ended up scoring. Right after the Hornets win over Liberty, they went up against Towanda.
"We came out really flat and were down by 15 at the half," said Marple. "We looked like we got hit by a train.
"The kids finally came out and played hard in the fourth quarter and we brought it to 4, but just ran out of time," said Marple.
Wellsboro ended up falling to the Black Knights 42-38. Prough had 18 points, Allen had 11 and Tony Cooper had 9 to lead the team in scoring.
"That certainly wasn't the way we wanted to end the season but I was impressed that they didn't give up on the game," concluded Marple.
The team finished the season with a record of 9-8.
