The Wellsboro Lady Hornets lost on a last second 3-point shot against Northeast Bradford Thursday night to fall 57-54.
After a sluggish first half, the Lady Hornets picked it up in the second half, taking the lead late in the fourth quarter on a three pointer by Senior Guard Mackenzie Marple. Northeast Bradford answered with a three of their own and it was a fight to the finish.
Marple led the team with 18 points and Senior Kimberly Acorn added 13. Senior Hannah Zuchowski dominated the glass with 10 rebounds and 2 blocks.
"It was a though, physical game", said head coach Mary Grab. "I was really proud of the girls and the way they dug in deep and played hard to get back into the game after that first half. Jordan Butters, Hannah, Kiana Acorn, and Alexa Singer all did a nice job on the boards. Jessie Catherman, Mackenzie, Sarah Ingerick, and Kimberly all handled outstanding defensive pressure by Northeast throughout the game", commented Grab.
In JV action, the Hornets won 28-14 to improve to 4-0 on the year. Alexa Singer was the high scorer with 11 points and Sarah Ingerick added 7.
With the loss, the Varsity team falls to 1-3 on the season. The team will be back in action on Saturday, December 15 as they host Towanda.
