Eighth grader Sarah Ingerick was one of six girls selected as part of the All-NTL Tournament Team at the inaugural NTL Middle School basketball tournament. Ingerick guided the Hornets to a third place overall finish in the tournament, which included wins over Wyalusing and North Penn.
"Sarah was our go to player all year, said head coach Darrell Morris. "When we needed to break the press, score a basket, or run out the clock, we put the ball in her hands."
Sarah led the team with 169 points and 71 steals for the season.
"She plays good defense, rebounds, and works hard in every practice," continued Morris. "She was a key element in our success this year and in the tournament. I feel fortunate to have been able to coach her this year and Sarah is definitely deserving of making the All-NTL Tournament Team."
In addition to Sarah, Wellsboro had three players nominated as Honorable Mention selections; Jada Jackson, Alexa Singer, and and Jenny Young.
"Jada, Alexa, and Jenny played huge roles in the team’s success this year. Jada led the team in rebounding with 91 boards on the year and pulled in 18 of those in the 3 tournament games," said Morris. "If the ball was loose, Jada was after it."
"Alexa was our defensive stopper. We usually played her on the other team’s best offensive player, either on the perimeter or in the post. She can also shoot the ball well and was second on the team with 135 points and 59 rebounds," stated Morris.
"Jenny is one of those players who just quietly does her job without a lot of fanfare. She played in the post this year and was always up against a taller player. She is an excellent defender, always hustles, and does all the little things that don’t show up in the box score," said Morris.
Jenny pulled down 17 rebounds in the 3 tournament games.
"All three of these girls were great teammates and did an excellent job for our team all year," concluded Morris.
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Sarah, Jada, Alexa, and Jenny on their accomplishments on the season, and wish them continued success at the JV and Varsity level.
