The Wellsboro boys soccer team traveled to the Millville Kickoff tournament this past weekend as they started the 2012 season 0-2.
On Friday they were matched up against a Warrior Run team returning most of its starters off of a district semi-final quality team. Warrior Run scored twice in the first twenty minutes of each half to win 4-0.
In the consolation game on Saturday the boys lost 3-1 to Wyoming Seminary. Junior Dylan Prough scored his first varsity goal, in his second varsity game off an assist from Spencer Kreisler's corner kick. Wellsboro had 7 shots on goal in Saturday's game.
"Both games provided excellent learning opportunities for the boys," said head coach John Shaffer. "In Warrior Run we played a team that we hope to be one day and it showed up how far we have to go. On Saturday we learned how cruel the game can be when you make mental mistakes.
"We have up three soft goals and if we would have defended a little better or taken the goal scoring chances we created we could have won the game. In the end playing these types of opponents will make us a better team for our league season."
The team will be back in action this Thursday, September 6, as they host Galeton.
