The Hornets rebounded from a loss at Towanda to defeat the Wyalusing Rams, 49-46. Wellsboro led 30-24 at the half but Wyalusing hung tough in the third as both teams scored 11 points each. The Rams out scored Wellsboro in the fourth but couldn't quite close the gap.
Dylan Prough led the Hornets with 20 points while Matt Reese chipped in 12. The key to Wellsboro's win was keeping Wyalusing's Aaron Johnson in check. Johnson, who is averaging 31 points per game, was guarded heavily on the night by Sam Mitchell. With the win, the Hornets improved their 2011-12 record to 14-2 (6-0 NTL West).
In JV action, the Hornets defeated Wyalusing 38-29 to improve their record to 9-7. Freshman Michael Pietropola led the team in scoring with 16 points. The team will be back in action Friday, February 3, as they travel to Williamson to start the second half of NTL West play.
