A week after earning the number 2 seed in District 4 playoffs, the Hornets fell to South Williamsport 49-31 to end their 2011-12 season. Last week, everything went Wellsboro's way against Mansfield. They won their second straight NTL West title, beat their rival Mansfield 60-47, and earned a first round bye in the District 4 playoffs. However, against South Williamsport, they were not so lucky.
After winning a thrilling first game against South Williamsport, 51-50, South Williamsport came ready for revenge as they handled the Hornets from the start of the game. Wellsboro trailed 7-0 before Sophomore Joey Doganiero scored the first points of the game, but couldn't keep pace with South's offense.
Turnovers, poor shooting, and lack of rebounding doomed Wellsboro the rest of the game, as South Williamsport advanced into the next round of playoffs. Leading the way for the Hornets was Junior Jordan Jackson with 12 points (321 season), Doganiero with 9 points, Freshman Michael Pietropola with 5 points, and Junior Matt Reese with 4 points.
With the loss, Wellsboro ends the season with a 20-4 overall record (11-1 NTL West).
