The Wellsboro Varsity boys basketball team picked up a win in NTL cross-over action tonight at home against Sayre.
The Hornets controlled the tempo of the game and worked their way to a 31-14 lead at halftime before handing the Redskins a 68-37 loss. Sophomore Kieron Smethers was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Senior Guards Jordan Jackson and Joey Doganiero pitched in 13 and 10 points, respectively.
In the JV game, the team won 37-36 in overtime on a 3-point shot by Sophomore Dylan Widows. Freshman Dawson Prough was the team's leading scorer with 17 points, while Sophomore Jake Mitchell added 6 and Sophomore Nick Marple finished with 7. The win brings the JV team's 2-1 on the year.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 3-0 on the year. The team will be back in action on Friday, December 14 as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
