The Wellsboro Varsity baseball team fell to the Sayre Redskins last night, 3-1. Junior Matt Reese and Senior Pat Parsons had the only two hits for the Hornets, as they were little match for Sayre's Alex Lyons.
Lyons threw a complete game for Sayre, striking out nine, walking six and allowing just two hits and one earned run.
"Alex Lyons threw pretty well tonight," head coach Philip Prough said. "Our guys could only produce two hits and they were bunt singles."
Wellsboro scored their lone run when Junior Ben Shaw and Sophomore Brian Doty each drew walks. Senior Thomas Johnston sacrifice bunted the runners over and Sophomore Dylan Prough hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Shaw.
Brandon Grinnell started on the mound for Wellsboro. He struck out three, walked four and hit two, while allowing three runs, one earned in the game. Dan Saniga struck out one and allowed no hits in 1 2/3 innings.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-4 (4-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, May 2, as they travel to Northeast Bardford.
