The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team picked a 4-1 league win over Towanda tonight, 4-1.
The Hornets got the scoring started in the 33rd minute as Sophomore Lauren Bleggi carried the ball down the left side of the field and shot from the top left of the box to put the girls up 1-0. In the 25th minute, Senior Sarah Kramer connected with Freshman Sarah Ingerick with a beautiful cross from the left side and Ingerick was able to finish with a one touch in front of the goal.
Later in the 17th minute, Junior Rachel Davis collected the ball from a cross and passed to Sarah Kramer who finished on the left far post to put the Hornets up 3-0 before Kramer scored her second goal of the contest to put the Hornets up 4-0.
Towanda would eventually score a goal in the final 10 minutes of the game to avoid the shutout.
"We had a hard time stepping to the free balls at the start of the game, but I'm proud of the girls for creating beautiful scoring opportunities," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "It was a great win at home and a good way to motivate the girls before heading into our second half of the season this Wednesday at Troy."
With the win, the Hornets improve their record to 3-4-1. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 26 as they travel to Troy.
