The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team fell to Sayre on Friday night, 2-1.
The Hornets opened the game strong and were able to control the ball for most of the game against the Redskins. In the 17th minute of the first half, Senior Sarah Kramer found herself in a breakaway with the pressure of one defender. She was able to beat her with speed and finish a beautiful shot far post to put the Hornets up 1-0.
Sayre would battle back to tie the game up with 4 minutes remaining in the first half, and would score the game winning goal in the 10th minute of the second half.
Sophomore Meghan Bodine and Freshman Jenny Young each recorded saves in goal for the Hornets. Bodine stopped 2 and Young stopped 1.
"This was a hard game to lose because the Lady Hornets controlled the ball the majority of the game," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "We've come a long way this season and it shows by scoring on a team that kept us scoreless in our first competition."
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-8-1 and will be back in action on Tuesday, October 16 as they host Towanda.
