Girls Soccer falls to Bloomsburg in Districts

The Wellsboro girls soccer team fell to Bloomsburg in the opening round of District IV playoffs, 3-1.
The Hornets started our the game with a goal from Freshman Sarah Ingerick in the 28th minute. Ingerick found herself with the ball in front of the goal, which she put in the back of the net over the keeper's head to put the Hornets up 1-0. Wellsboro would hold the lead for a few minutes until Bloomsburg rallied to tie the game up in the 12th minute of the first half.
The Hornets were held scoreless in the second half and Bloomsburg was able to claim the opening round victory. Sophomore Meghan Bodine recorded 14 saves on the night to keep the Hornets in the game.
"The girls played tough the entire game," said assistant coach Ashley Redell. "It was a fun game to watch and the team should be proud of their effort."
The loss ends the Lady Hornets' season, but head coach Carolyn Mitchell was proud of how her team performed.
"We started and ended the game with intensity. We stepped up to any free ball and really gave a third seeded team a run for their money," stated Mitchell. "I've watched the underclassmen grow in confidence and the upperclassmen step up as leaders.
"Brooke Kohler did an outstanding job staying physical and applying pressure at the mid field and Meghan Bodine was a force in the goal against Bloomsburg's attack. It was positive note to end a great season on because every player fought until the end."
With the loss, the Hornets finish the 2012 season 7-9-1 (7-8-1 NTL).
