The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team picked up a 5-1 league win over Williamson last night in Wellsboro.
Junior Brooke Kohler got the action started in the 12th minute when she sent the ball across middle of the goal were Senior Sarah Kramer was there with a perfect one touch to the back of the net to put the Hornets up 1-0. Williamson would rally five minutes later to score their only goal of the contest (on their only shot) to tie the game up 1-1.
Later in the 18th minute, Kohler carried the ball down the middle where she shot a distant, top of the box goal over the keepers head to put the Hornets up 2-1. Wellsboro would score two more goals in the first half to go up 4-1. Sophomore Jena Reimann scored the third goal and Kramer scored the fourth for her second of the game.
In the second half, Senior Kimberly Acorn scored Wellsboro's final goal with 30 seconds remaining to give the Hornets the 5-1 win.
"We started off a little slow, but were able to turn it around and improve our passing to create some quality shots on goal," said head coach Carolyn Mitchell. "I was extremely impressed with Williamson goal keeper, who had constant pressure from the Lady Hornets. Its easy to see that all of the teams in the league have continued to improve."
In JV action, Wellsboro shut out Williamson 5-0.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-5-1 on the season. The team will be back in action on Monday, October 1 as they host Wyalusing.
