The Wellsboro boys track team suffered their third loss of the year as they fell to Athens tonight, 97-52. The Hornets struggled in the sprints, as Sophomores Dan Brooks and Blair Carson were the top two finishers. Brooks finished fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.3, while Carson finished fourth in the 200m in 25.5.
The Hornets came alive in the distance runs, as they took home top spots in the 400m, 800m, and 1600m runs. In the 400m, Senior Garrett Webster, Sophomore Joey Doganiero, and Junior Bobby Hill swept the race with times of 54.7, 55.7, and 56.0, respectively. In the 800m, Senior Bob Owlett took home the top spot (2:06.7) while Junior Jordan Jackson (2:07.2), and Webster (2:11.4) finished close behind. In the 1600m, the Hornets captured the top two spots as Jackson and Owlett finished with time of 4:41.7 and 4:42.9, respectively.
In the relay events the Hornets won one out of the three events. The 4x400m team of Doganiero, Jackson, Owlett, and Webster finished first with a time of 3:37. The 4x800m team did not run, while the 4x100m team was disqualified.
In the jumping events, Wellsboro took home the top spot(s) in two out of four events. In the high jump, Freshman Nick Marple won the event with a jump of 5' 6", while Brooks finished second with a jump of 5' 2". Junior Konnor Spencer and Thomas Straniere tied for first place with vaults of 10' 0".
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 3-3 (2-3 NTL Large) on the year. The team will be back in action on Saturday, May 12, as they compete in the NTL Large School meet.
