A day after downing Troy to open the Wellsboro Hornets Sports Booster Club Holiday Tournament, the Green Hornet girls basketball team fall to Sayre in the championship game, 42-24. Mikayla Palmer-Bacon was high scorer with 10 points and 4 rebounds and Mackenzie Marple scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Lady Hornets kept the game close throughout the first half, but couldn't close the widening gap through the third and fourth quarters.
"Sayre is a well-coached group of players who are very strong defensively", said coach Mary Grab. "I thought we'd make a better showing against them, but it just wasn't there tonight."
Mackenzie Marple was named to the All-Tournament Team.
In JV action, the Wellsboro Lady Hornet JV Team won their bid to be tournament champions by defeating Mansfield by a score of 20-16. Leading the way for the Hornets was Peyton Wilson with 5 points, followed by Jordan Butters with 4 points and 12 rebounds. Peyton was named to the All-Tournament Team while Butters was named Tournament MVP.
