After securing their first win of the 2010 season last week against Cowanesque Valley, the Hornets dropped their annual Homecoming contest to the Athens Wildcats, 39-0. Nothing went right for the Hornets as Athens controlled the tempo for the start of the game. Junior Thomas Johnston led the way on the ground for the Hornets with 10 carries for 23 yards.
Wellsboro was lead in the passing game by Senior Receiver Nick Saniga, who pulled in six passes for 41 yards. Sophomore Quarterback Ben Shaw finished the night 9-of-19 for 69 yards and three interceptions.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the NTL Large School Division. Wellsboro will be in action next week as they host South Williamsport. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
