NTL All-Star Selection Criteria
Updated: 2023-24 Season
Mission Statement
The Northern Tier League is to provide clear guidelines to the coaches, athletic directors and administrators how the NTL All Star selections are administered. The All-Star selection process promotes excellence in all league sponsored sports through good sportsmanship, outstanding athletic achievement and academic excellence. It is our hope that all sport participants are inspired and honored by the process.
All selected players must be in good standing with their respective teams. Players must be academically eligible at the conclusion of the season and at the time of all-star selection meeting. The coaches are asked to determine, to the best of their ability, the best overall players, by position, to represent their teams based on the player’s performance in the regular season of play.
- A representative from all teams in the division(s) must be present at the selection meeting in order to have a vote.
- All All-Star selections must be submitted to the NTL Athletic Directors President for review prior to public announcements being made.
- Only First and Second Team All-Stars will be submitted - NO HONORABLE MENTION SELECTIONS
Selection Process
- The selection meeting will be held no more than fifteen days after the conclusion of all post-season events for all league teams.
- A school may choose to submit "no nominations".
- If a school does not attend the meeting or submit their nomination, their school will NOT be awarded any selections.
- All-Star selection is based on all competitions throughout the year, not just league play. This includes postseason and non-league competitions. Coaches should compile league and non-league stats separately to use as supporting data.
- Each Head Coach (or appointed designee) should bring enough copies of their nominations with supporting data for each coach in the division and/or league.
- The selection numbers must be adhered to according to the league - any tie will result in both athletes being named to the All-Star Team - even if it exceeds the league number. This speaks to the case of one or two athletes being tied so the number is exceeded by one or two, not more.
- Players selected as the league Player of the Year, Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year, League MVP, Offensive or Defensive MVP will utilize a position on the All-Star First Team and these three (3) total selections can come from any school in any division.
- All sports will select a Coaching Staff of the Year.
