The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams swept North Penn-Liberty on Monday, March 8.

In the boys game the Hornets defeated North-Penn Liberty 24-18. Thanks to a strong defensive effort, the Hornets led 2-0 after the first quarter and 12-1 at halftime. North-Penn Liberty outscored Wellsboro 7-2 in the third quarter but the Hornets still led 14-8 after three quarters. Both teams scored 10 4th quarter points to reach the final score.

"Our defensive effort was tremendous throughout the game and it allowed us to have some easy looks at the basket," said coach Kyle Smith. "It was a great team effort with many players contributing on both ends of the court. After a few tough losses, it was nice to put a solid game together tonight."

EJ Keck scored 9 points to lead the Hornets, Micaiah Fitch added 7 points, Mitchel Lechler scored 6 points, and Owen Stevens and Jacob Baldwin each added 1 point.

In the girls game the Lady Hornets came away with another 28-14 win. Paige had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks. Chloe has 10 points, 3 assists, 3 steals. Raegan and Megan each had 3 steals. LeAnna had 4 points and 3 steals.

"We had another slow start," head coach Janelle Tombs said. "We did pick it up in the second half. Our offense showed some good signs in getting the ball down low to our post."

Both teams are back in action on Thursday, March 11 at Williamson.
