Middle School Hornets split with Mansfield

The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams split a pair of games against North Penn-Mansfield on Saturday, February 27.

In the girls game Wellsboro won 37-6. Paige Logsdon had a triple double with 20 points, 10 steals, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks. Chloe Brandenburg had 17 points and 5 steals. Raegan Watkins-Bourret had 1 point and 8 steals. LeAnna Fuentes had 2 points and 4 steals. Madelyn Losinger had 3 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

"We did a good job meeting our goals for the game in taking care of the basketball and getting more rebounds than our opponents," said coach Janelle Tombs. "This win was a total team effort with the aggressive defense and passing the ball."

B Team won 34-7. Lily Wagner had 7 steals, Teagan had 4 steals and 2 rebounds, Lilah had 4 steals, Desiree Solow had 3 steals, Cassie Solow had 2 assists, Megan Robbins had 3 steals and 4 rebounds, Alex had 3 rebounds, Ariana had 3 rebounds.

In the boys game the Hornets suffered a tough loss at North Penn-Mansfield by a final score of 40-37. Despite holding a 12-6 lead after the first quarter and a 23-18 lead at halftime, the Hornets were outscored 14-6 in the third quarter, were unable to hold onto a late lead in the 4th quarter and fell just short.

"The boys played hard today and the effort and intensity we played with was commendable," said head coach Kyle Smith. "I was pleased with the way we executed on both ends of the court against a tough North-Penn Mansfield team. Ultimately, the game was decided on a few plays that did not go our way today."

Micah Vickery led the balanced scoring attack for the Hornets with 12 points, Mitchel Lechler scored 10 points, Micaiah Fitch scored 8 points, EJ Keck scored 5 points and Marek Mascho scored 2.

The Boys B team won 46-14 behind 14 points from Jacob Baldwin, 11 points for Luke Rothermel, 9 points for Jonathan Carl, 4 points for Peyton Yawger, 4 points for Marek Mascho, 2 points for Braeden Abernathy and 2 points for Landen Wescott.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, March 2 against Canton.
