Middle School Hornets close out season with pair of wins

The Wellsboro Middle School baseball team closed out the year with a sweep over Troy and Canton on Saturday, May 22.

In game 1 against Troy the Hornets won 10-7.

The Hornets jumped out to an early lead with 3 runs in the 1st inning. After the Trojans came back to tie the game in the top of the 3rd they added 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the 4th to clinch the game.

Gabe Sprouse led Wellsboro at the plate with a 2-for-2 performance. Marek Mascho and Dustin Owlett were both 2-for-3. Ryder Bowen, Lucas Cuneo, and Luke Rothermel added the remaining hits.

In game 2 of the doubleheader the Hornets topped Canton, 6-1. They scored 5 runs in the 1st to take a commanding lead over the visiting Warriors and never looked back. Canton scored their lone run in the 3rd and the Hornets matched that run in the 4th.

Wellsboro had 6 hits in the game, one each by Mascho, Bowen, Cuneo, Dylan Copp, Cameron Owlett, and Aiden Jones.

The Hornets finish the season with a 10-5-1 record.
