The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams each scored a pair of wins on the road at Cowanesque Valley on Saturday, December 14.

In the boys game the Hornets beat CV, 39-24. The Hornets led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 20-7 at halftime before pulling away for good in the second half.

"The defensive effort and intensity made the difference in today's game," head coach Kyle Smith said. "When the boys buckle down defensively, we can be really difficult to play against and I thought turning defense into offense was the difference in the game today. It was good to get back in the win column after a tough night last time out."

Caden Smith paced the hornets with 13 points, Tyler Youells scored 8 points, Hayes Campbell and Julian Mann added 6 points each, Ian Hoose scored 4 points and Carter Knowlton scored 2 points.

In the girls game Wellsboro pulled out a 21-10 win.

"It was a tale of two halves," head coach Darrell Morris said. "We were outhustled and outscored in the first half, but the girls got it rolling in the 3rd quarter and took control of the game."

CV led 7-4 after the first half before Wellsboro turned it around in the third quarter, going on an 8-1 run, then held CV to just 1 point in the 4th quarter.

Paige Logsdon (4 rebounds, 3 steals) and Chloe Brandenburg (2 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 assists) had 6 points each, Maddy Mascho added 5 points, 1 rebound, 7 steals, and 1 assist, Emily Morris added 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist, Olivia Chilson grabbed 5 rebounds and had 1 steal, Hannalee Cleveland had 1 steal and 1 assist, Emily Pierce and Emily Richardson had 1 rebound each, and Hannah Gilmour had 1 steal.
